Openmind Networks To Showcase Next Generation Message Router For Mobile Networks At Mobile World Congress

2nd January 2008

Michael O’Brien, VP Marketing of Openmind Networks today announced that Openmind Networks will showcase Traffic Control, its next generation messaging router for mobile networks at Mobile World Congress to be held from the 11th – 14th February, 2008 in Barcelona.

“Legacy architectures evolved over time to cope with changing demands on the SMS service,” says Michael O’Brien. “SMSCs were initially installed in networks primarily to provide support for voice mail notifications, and mobile originated messages were seen as of little importance. First Delivery and Application Traffic Routers were essentially added as quick fixes to cope with the rapid and unexpected surge in SMS usage that followed the mass market adoption of GSM in the late 1990s. Operators are now left with a legacy architecture that is fundamentally flawed and has built-in inefficiencies that are now the cause of serious technical and commercial problems.”

According to O’Brien, “With Traffic Control, operators can consolidate a range of legacy SMS message handling platforms into a unified, high-performance, routing and delivery engine”.

Openmind Networks will demonstrate Traffic Control, its industry leading next generation messaging platform and its comprehensive suite of applications to demonstrate how it:
1.    Replaces store & forward SMSCs with a high performance router built on an open hardware & operating system
2.    Delivers sufficient capacity to handle all messaging traffic on one distributed system
3.    Enables interception & routing of off-net originating mobile MT traffic
4.    Provides triggering of anti-spam & other filters to protect messaging services
5.    Supports a suite of value added applications that personalise messaging services
6.    Includes an open API to allow customised application development in-line with Service Oriented Architecture principles

Openmind Networks welcomes the opportunity to meet with individuals and companies that are interested in hearing more about Traffic Control and the range of benefits that it delivers to our current customer base.
